ISLAMABAD: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that promotion of science and technology and higher education is inevitable for social and economic development and the western nation should change their perception about Pakistan as we are progressing towards being a moderate country.
He expressed these views while addressing the 5th Conference on Applied Sciences at the NESCOM Auditorium on Monday.
Lauding the services of country`s engineers and scientists the President said that the services of engineers and scientists in making Pakistan a nuclear state are impeccable and the whole nation is proud of them. He said that what ever the task was handed over to them they fulfilled it with flying colors.
He said that government has prioritize the promotion of Higher Education and science and technology as we are in full realization of the fact that without these two a country cannot prosper economically and socially. We are also working for upgrading the standard of primary and secondary education, the president added.
He said that the curriculum is being changed in order to come up to the par of modern times. He said that we will be able to achieve UN Millennium Development Goals with respect to Higher Education as we have increased the budget many folds and with the cooperation of some countries we are establishing 9 universities and the rectors and faculty members would also belong to the sponsor countries.
He also urged the foreign scientists attending the conference that they should change their perception about Pakistan as security situation in Karachi, Lahore and other countries is quiet satisfactory and law and order situation is confined to only the tribal areas of the country due to foreign elements there, He said that however our forces have broken the back of extremist elements and we are moving towards a moderate and enlightened country.
The president also lauded the services of Nescom with regard to science and technology.
Other prominent scientists of the country also addressed on the occasion.

We're centuries behind in S&T |
The Industrial Revolution missed the Muslim Ummah. Even Ottoman Turkish Empire missed it. The President has spotlighted this neglected aspect of knowledge. Pakistan will become a reservoir of scientists and technicians for the developers of central Asian hidden mineral wealth. BB and Sharif Bros. paid no attention to S&T. They busied themselves with "loot and khasoot".

Scientists and engineers should be left discreet with their production plants and laboratories. They need not be politicized nor they should interact much with politics. An engineer or a scientists fits best in his design work, production plants and laboratories, the way the military looks the best in barricks.
Every person has a role to play within a scope of work. But certain areas require more seriousness, while majority of masses in the world are after easy and good life. Life is not that easy going for scientists and engineers as it requires too much dedication. Same way, i am sure that life is not that easy in barricks as they are simulating war and thinking of blood and death.
With S and T, it is going tough, but at least there is job security until at least the age of sixty or more. As they say in north America that doctors and engineers automatically join uper middle class and those, who do not squander good income like I have done in Canada on horse racing and unsuccessful business ventures, become even rich.
When i lost my other two houses in Canada on horse racing, besides the one i have now, my friends told me that some engineers need their heads examined.
People in S and T can be crazy and young age can turn to be your enemy. S and T does not bring wisdom and wisdom in times can be more important than S and T. Even S and T people need serious financial consultation. Pulling money out of investments, which become millions dollar after words, and loose them on horse racing is no wisdom. Driving convertible Cadillac cars with leather seats is no wisdom in youth. Gambling your two houses and pay cheques on horse racing and stock options is no wisdom. Playing stocks without indulging in worse than horse racing stock options can make you rich.
I think every S and T man, and as a matter of fact every person should learn wisdom more than any thing else. Jews are the only people in north America, who can get heart attack if their sons and daughters do not save money like themselves.
If a Jewish son or daughter do not save money the Jewish man will be sighing and crying to any body he meets and telling that his son and daughter don't save money. A jewish man may buy his new born baby a house on installments and rent it out to cover mortages. By the time the baby grows up to age 20 or 25, the son or daughter have a good base and start in life and he or she is a sure millionaire by the middle age.
I know a Jewish man, who was so hard on his son and daughter, if they squandered money,that they both ended up in correction house or rehabilitation center and the father had heart attack over the spending habits of his kids.He is an S and T man and so is his daughter and son.The daughter was able to save money to become a doctor in New York and the son is wealthy business engineer.
But, muslims, they got to have pump and show. Even the Hindus give up on their lavishly spending kids in second or third generation in Canada or US. But, the Jews keep on saving even after one hundred generations.
The most happy you can make a jew in Canada or USA, is by telling that they are good in saving and they hate spending. Once, i made up a poem on Jews universal habit of saving by and recited in front of a Jewish business man friend of mine. He requested me to repeat it two or three times and was very delighted to even write it down my poem on Jews as such:
The best one can do good to S and T man or woman is to make them wise with habit of stable spending.
But, even with lavish spending habit, S and T people may survive all right.
And S and T person can dent his abilities if he socializes with cheap and easy going masses.His performance can drop as the common masses are too much care free. I don't know how the barricks military feels by interacting with care free and easy going masses.
